A parallel from the prophetic Psalms about the extermination of wicked people and nations from the earth. The catastrophic events through which this will be accomplished are mentioned again. Despite the fact that God has given the nations of the earth great power and authority to rule the earth, all wicked people will perish.

Psalm 11

⁶ On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

Psalm 82

⁵ They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken. ⁶ I said, “You are gods, all of you are sons of the Most High. ⁷ Nevertheless you shall die like men, and fall like one of the rulers.” ⁸ Arise, God, judge the earth, for you inherit all of the nations.
