    Justus, Cleo

Cleora Ann "Cleo" Justus was born in the small town of Elk Falls, Kansas, just following the Great Depression. Before her first birthday, her family moved to a 240 acre farm in Southeastern Kansas, because of her Grandfather's death, two weeks before she was born. It was to be her home for the next nine and a half years. She had a loving mother who told her stories, and taught her to cook and sew. Her father read the Bible to her and taught her to sing and love music. The family attended church services in a nearby town. She enjoyed farm life, and made pets out of many of the animals. She attended a one-room country school until the middle of the fourth grade. Her family moved some thirty miles east to Fredonia, Kansas. Althought it was not a large town, she felt overwhelmed to have many students and teachers in one building. Her family moved again several times before she graduated from Coffeyville College, in Kansas. She married a minister and had many opportunities to share stories down through the years. The stories recorded in this book are some of her real life experiences on the farm and in "small town America" during her first 12 years. It is her hope that you will enjoy them.
